Faceware Technologies Inc. is leading the market in 3D facial motion capture solutions. To add to their current arsenal of MoCap products they recently announced the development of a new real-time solution called Faceware Live.
The new software captures actor’s facial expressions without obtrusive markers by utilizing any onboard computer video or a webcam, streaming it into Autodesk® MotionBuilder®, instantly transforming the actor’s performance to a 3D character in real time. This could be particularly useful as a voice-over application as the director and voice actor can see the performance streamed live to their digital characters, allowing them to immediately understand how the performance will work in digital form.
VP of business development at Faceware Technologies, Peter Busch, indicated in a recent press release, “We’ve seen growing demand across a number of industries for real-time facial motion capture. Faceware Live is our revolutionary approach to meeting this demand. This product addresses the many challenges that arise in production and enables rapid content creation for anything from live stage performances to on-set pre-visualization to a desktop tool for animators.”
Acting with digital characters is made easier with Faceware Live which allows real performers to interact with digital characters, an ideal use for live hosted events. Animation Artists can also produce work instantaneously right from their own work stations for rapid prototyping and content creation.
Faceware Live isn’t slated for release until late 2013, but those eager to get a glimpse of the new software had a chance to do so this week at SIGGRAPH 2013. You can also watch the video here: http://vimeo.com/70422830
