In a recent interview with the BBC and in a Rolling Stone cover story the star of about 50 films, including the feature length animated film Rango, revealed that retirement may soon be on his horizon.
Depp, now 50 years old, told BBC Breakfast: “When you add up the amount of dialogue that you say per year, for example, and you realize that you’ve said written words more than you’ve actually had a chance to say your own words, you start thinking about that as kind of an insane option for a human being.”
With about five different projects on the go this transition is not likely going to be tomorrow but the star says he doesn’t see himself doing this ten years from now. “When you get old enough or get a few brain cells back, you realize that, on some level, you lived a life of a fugitive.”
Having to hide from the media, being ushered in through hotel kitchens and backdoors, it is no wonder that the star may want to normalize his existence. “Are there quieter things that I wouldn’t mind doing? Yeah. I wouldn’t say that I’m dropping out any second, but I would say that’s probably not too far away.”
Johnny Depp’s creativity both onscreen and off will be missed by fans but with more projects currently on the go there’s more of Depp yet to come.
