One of America’s greatest and most loved children’s movies of all time is turning 75. To celebrate, Warner Bros. is launching a massive $25 million dollar campaign involving a new theatrical release, home entertainment and a McDonald’s campaign across North America. Six figurines from the movie will accompany McDonald’s Happy Meals between September 20th and October 10th 2013. This coincides with The Wizard of Oz 75th Anniversary and Warner Bros. 90th Anniversary.
Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Wicked Witch of the West, Tin Man, Glinda the Good Witch and the Cowardly Lion will all be heard in clearer sound with The Wizard of Oz re-released to IMAX theatres across North America. The film has been re-mastered and will be released in 3D. The IMAX premiere on is set for Sept. 15 at the remodeled TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood, which hosted the original Wizard of Oz Hollywood premiere in 1939. The re-mastered version will also be screened at the Toronto Intl Film Festival, at the Scotiabank IMAX Theatre, on Sept. 15.
On Oct. 1, Warner Home Entertainment will release a limited collector’s edition of “The Wizard of Oz,” which will include a five-disc set, include the Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD and UltraViolet versions of the film, the documentary “The Making of The Wonderful The Wizard of Oz,” and a 52-page hardcover photo book.
