Who hasn’t been captivated by the whimsical drawings of one Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss? If you love his illustrations, you won’t want to miss his hats!
For the first time ever, and in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of “The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins,” the hats of Dr. Seuss are making the rounds, maybe even coming to a gallery near you.
According to sources, Audrey S. Geisel, the widow of Dr. Seuss, has generously opened up the Estate’s legendary “hat closet” to allow the public a peek at Dr. Seuss’s hat collection. These hats will travel the country visiting select venues throughout 2013. Hats Off to Dr. Seuss! is a rare and exciting exhibition as this is the first time any of these hats have traveled outside the Seuss Estate.
In celebration of the 75th anniversary of Dr. Seuss’s second book, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, Dr. Seuss’s never-before-seen hat collection will be exhibited alongside his little-known Secret Art, a series of Estate authorized works adapted from Ted Geisel’s original drawings, paintings, and sculpture.
Traveling in a specially retrofitted old fashioned steamer trunk, Dr. Seuss’s hats debuted at the New York Public Library from February 1–11, as the first of 16 stops across the country.
If you’d like to see the hats, there are a few more stops on the cross-country tour.
