DreamWorks Animation is dusting off the old 1960’s cartoon Mr. Peabody bringing it to new audiences on the silver screen in 3D animation. The fictional dog and his “pet” boy first appeared in segments on the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show called Peabody’s Improbable History in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.
The new adventure follows Mr. Peabody, the most intelligent being in the world, and his adopted boy Sherman. When Sherman tries to impress his classmate Penny with their WABAC time traveling machine it results in disastrous (and comical) events, which puts them in a race against time to put things on track before the space-time continuum is irreparably destroyed.
An animated film has reportedly been under development for Mr. Peabody for years and underwent numerous changes throughout the development, pushing the release date around several times.
Robert Downey Jr. was originally cast as the voice of Mr. Peabody but in March 2012 he was replaced. In June 2012, it was reported that Mr. Peabody & Sherman’s release date had been moved up to November 8, 2013. Then in September 2012, the release date has been moved up for a week to November 1, 2013. In February 2013, the release date was delayed again to March 7, 2014, until finally settling on a release date of March 14th, 2014.
The screenplay was written by Craig Wright, and directed by Rob Minkoff, who is famous for co-directing The Lion King for Disney. The film is produced by Alex Schwarz and Denise Cascino.
The voice-over cast features:
- Ty Burrell as Mr. Peabody
