Los Angeles, CA – August 21, 2014 – Deyan Audio Services sadly announces the passing of its co-founder, Bob Deyan. Bob passed away Tuesday evening at UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, due to complications of ALS, after valiantly fighting the illness since his diagnosis in March of 2013. Bob and Debra Deyan started their audiobook business; Deyan Audio, in Van Nuys, California in 1990, recording out of a clothes closet. Deyan Audio is now one of the largest independent producers of audiobooks in the world.
In May 2014, one of Bob Deyan’s lifelong dreams came to fruition with the opening of the Deyan Institute of Voice Artistry and Technology, in Northridge, California. The institute was founded by Debra Deyan to continue Bob’s legacy of audio excellence. The name, Bob Deyan was synonymous with the highest level of audiobook artistry. In 2013 Bob received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Audio Publisher’s Association Audie Awards and vowed to fight the disease in his acceptance speech.
The weekend before his death, hundreds of friends convened at Bob’s Northridge home to participate in the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS.
Details regarding the memorial service will be announced later this week. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Golden West Chapter Billion for Bob team.
