The Business Development Bank of Canada’s (BDC) Voices project, “Voices’s Growth Journey” was announced as the winner of the 2018 Constantinus International Gold Award as the Best Project at the International Constantinus Awards on October 18, presented at the International Council of Management Consulting Institute’s (ICMCI – now known as CMC-Global) congress in Milan, Italy. The project was also awarded the National Champion award for Canada.

The International Constantinus Awards showcase excellence in consulting services worldwide. This is the first year that a Canadian project was submitted for consideration.

“Voices’s Growth Journey,” a project which began in 2016, included strategic growth planning, leadership development, and execution support from BDC, the results of which contributed to Voices cementing its position as the undisputed leader in the voice over industry with the largest market share online. The project was named as a winner of the 2018 Canadian CMC Project of the Year award by the Canadian Association of Management Consultants (CMC-Canada) in July, and was moved forward to be considered for the 2018 Constantinus International awards.

“BDC has been a great supporter of Voices for many years, so when we were faced with the strategic challenge of accelerating our already fast growth in a sustainable and achievable – yet aggressive – way, we knew that BDC would help our company really deliver on our vision,” says Voices CEO David Ciccarelli. “BDC and Glenn Yonemitsu, the lead on this project, have been invaluable partners to our organization and contributors to our significant achievements to date. We couldn’t be happier that their project with our company, along with their great consulting work, has been recognized by this prestigious organization and award.”

“Voices is a great example of how a committed entrepreneur can benefit from a disciplined growth strategy approach when combined with expert support,” said Glenn Yonemitsu, Senior Executive Advisor, BDC Advisory Services. “We are proud of Voices’s tremendous progress as they participated in our Growth Driver Program, which was created to accelerate the growth of high-potential and scalable mid-sized companies. Our teams meshed well to produce strong results, and we are excited to see what the future has in store for Voices.”

120 projects representing 20 countries were evaluated for the 2018 awards. Of the projects selected for the final round, three were from Canada, including the Voices project. Canada swept the podium with all the top awards, with “Voices’s Growth Journey” taking Gold and National Champion. TDV Global from Ottawa and Clearthink Group from Edmonton tied for Silver.

“These award winners demonstrate the significant difference even a small engagement with a Certified Management Consultant can make for our Canadian and international clients,” said Mike Watson, CMC-Canada’s National Board Chair. “CMC-Canada thanks all of its members who submitted projects for this year’s awards – we’re looking forward to next year’s submissions and continuing to highlight the work of CMCs in delivering superior results for their clients.”

The series of Constantinus Awards was established to promote the consulting sector and the individual outstanding consulting projects at national and international levels. This is the eighth year of the awards.

Canadian Business and Maclean’s today ranked Voices number 224 on the 30th annual Growth 500, the definitive ranking of Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies. The company made the list as a result of a five-year revenue growth of 319%. This is the sixth consecutive year that Voices, the world’s largest online voice over platform, has been named to the prestigious list, representing consistent growth that ranks among Canada’s top businesses.

“Given the competitiveness of the ranking and the challenges associated with sustaining high growth, it is very difficult for any company to make the ranking for six straight years,” says Growth 500 Program Manager Deborah Aarts.

Produced by Canada’s premier business and current affairs media brands, the Growth 500 ranks Canadian businesses on five-year revenue growth. Growth 500 winners are profiled in a special print issue of Canadian Business published with Maclean’s magazine and online at CanadianBusiness.com and Growth500.ca.

“We’re honored to again be included among Canada’s fastest-growing and most ambitious companies,” says Voices CEO, David Ciccarelli. “The entire Voices team is ever inspired to serve our customers and build our platform. This recognition is a symbol that we’ve matured from a startup to a scale-up, moving into a new phase of growth. Our team’s focus will always be to help organizations communicate more effectively using the power of the human voice.”

Voices recently eclipsed 500,000 registered users and has the largest market share, making it the undisputed leader in the voice over industry. The company has also been recognized as one of the fastest-growing businesses in North America, appearing on the 2017 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 and Deloitte Technology Fast 50.

“The companies on the 2018 Growth 500 are truly remarkable. Demonstrating foresight, innovation and smart management, their stories serve as a primer for how to build a successful entrepreneurial business today,” Aarts says. “As we celebrate 30 years of the Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies program, it’s encouraging to see that entrepreneurship is healthier than ever in this country.”
